About
I'm Lucas - a senior product designer with fourteen years of consulting experience. I focus on user-centric experiences and designing solutions for complex issues. I'm currently based in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Over the years, I’ve worked across government, finance, food and drink industry, agency, education, IoT, startups, environmental initiatives, retail, automotive and media. I’ve also worked with some pretty awesome brands during my career, from early-stage startups like Volta Trucks, to FTSE 100 companies like Natwest, American Government, Scottish Rugby, Lush and Carbon Trust.
I’ve had a varied career starting out as a frontend developer focusing on Drupal and WordPress theming but after working across multiple teams I found my passion for designing user experience and product design. I was in a fortunate position to learn from a variety of fantastic designers, and once confident in my skills, transitioned into the role permanently.
My previous frontend development skills gave me an advantage as I knew how to speak technically to developers, understand what was feasible and communicate clearly with clients. I’ve also been in charge of multidisciplinary teams of designers and developers for multiple large projects, completed recruitment drives and managed agile projects.

Completed an end to end design process to improve the clients' primary product. I completed competitor analysis, customer testing, usability audit and produced a new UI focusing on ease of use and filtering complex data to improve usability.
Senior Product Designer
Full Fat Things / 2021
Lead designer for multiple projects including retail, medical and media clients. Produced designs for ecommerce experiences and iOS and android applications.
Senior UI Designer
The & Partnership / 2020
Hired to produce a robust email style guide for NatWest, RBS and Ulster Bank. Using the brands style guides I produced multiple reusable content blocks and created example emails for client and stakeholder meetings. Once this was complete, I managed the handover to a development team to create the new designs.

Cognitive Geology / 2019
Lead service designer in an early startup focused on creating a unique user experience to handle complex data from geological well data. I designed multiple administration screens, workflows and experimental data visualisations for the product working closely with their engineers to scope out feasibility.

Lead designer tasked with rebranding the clients suite of software after a merger and to visualise a new application. I conducted user research, interviews and requirement gathering. I focused on information architecture before rapidly wireframing concepts and ideas.
